Looking back at the 2021 challenge

As I post the final painting for the 2022 challenge, let’s take a look back at the 2021 challenge.

The original idea was to do a ‘watch art’ version of the Inktober challenge (an annual online art challenge), and I think it worked for 2021. Of course, once you start changing the rules, everything is fair game and the challenge I set myself in 2022 definitely departed even further from the Inktober rules.

In 2021, I completed one sketch a day.  The most difficult and time consuming part was actually planning and deciding on what to draw.  The aim was to draw watches that I liked.  Comparing the watch choices in 2021 and 2022, I think my knowledge of watches and tastes have evidently changed over the year.

As for medium – I used A5, watercolour paper; and mainly ink pens. There was little clean up necessary.  This changed dramatically in the 2022 challenge.
